Limonada Frozen - Frozen Limeade

User Rating 4.5 Star Rating (2 Reviews)

Limes are called "limones" " (lee-mone-ayes) in South America, which can be confusing to English speakers. So although this drink is called a "limonada frozen" in Spanglish, it is really a frozen limeade drink. It is very tart and refreshing, and is my son's absolute favorite, although he warns that it may give you "brain freeze."

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup key lime juice (from about 8 small key limes)
  • 4 cups of crushed iced

  1. Bring water and sugar to a boil, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and cool.

  2. Mix sugar water, lime juice, and ice in a blender, and blend until well mixed and slushy. Serve immediately in tall glasses.

    Serves 4.

Recipe right on, Member volley1208

This recipe is just like in South America. Word to the wise, make the sugar syrup a little earlier to leave time for it to cool or else the ice melts a little too much during the blending process. I also put the zest of one lime in mine too. Serves 4 in 12 ounce glasses. You could include alcohol if you wanted too. Serve with a straw and top with a lime slice.
