Butifarra Sandwich - Peruvian Butifarra Pork Sandwich

The word butifarra is most well known as the name of a Spanish sausage, but it is also the name of popular Peruvian sandwich. The butifarra is a masterpiece of a sandwich - filled with slices of savory jamón del país and the wonderful sweet onion relish called salsa criolla.

Ingredients:

  • 4 French bread sandwich rolls
  • 1 pound sliced jamón del país (see below for recipe link)
  • 1 cup salsa criolla (see below for recipe link)
  • Lettuce
  • Mayonnaise (optional)
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation:

  1. Split the rolls in half lengthwise and spread insides lightly with mayonnaise if desired.

  2. Divide jamón (recipe here) among the four rolls, and place inside rolls with lettuce.

  3. Add 1/4 cup salsa criolla (recipe here) to each roll. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Makes 4 sandwiches.
